As we celebrate International Women’s Day this week, it’s crucial to reflect not only on the progress made towards gender equality but also on the work that still lies ahead, particularly in the realms of leadership and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).
This year’s theme, “Inspire Inclusion,” calls for a deeper examination of how we can foster diverse leadership and create inclusive environments where women can thrive and lead effectively.
Despite significant strides, women continue to be underrepresented in leadership positions across industries worldwide.
Whether in corporate boardrooms, political offices, or entrepreneurial ventures, women face systemic barriers that hinder their advancement. While the conversation around gender diversity in leadership has gained momentum in recent years, the numbers tell a sobering tale: women hold only a fraction of top executive roles and board seats globally.
Achieving gender parity in leadership goes beyond mere representation; it requires a commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). True progress can only be realised when organisations prioritise creating environments where women, regardless of background or identity, have equal opportunities for growth and advancement. EDI initiatives not only benefit women but also contribute to more innovative, resilient, and successful organisations.
There are so many events and activities set to celebrate the recognition of women not only here in the UK but across the world, and I’m looking forward to hosting the Shine Together International Women’s Day conference 2024. My fellow Host will be the wonderful Leanne Bonner-Cooke MBE.
There will be a power-packed panel of speakers to discuss both their experiences in their careers and lives in relation to inclusion but there ideas of how we can all make inclusive improvements in our organisations and communities. I hope that you will be joining me and many others on the day. Here are the details and the link to book your place. It will be an event to inspire, connect and grow.
