It was a pleasure to attend the launch of the new EIDA Employer Handbook developed to support Employers in dealing with abuse experienced by employees at home or in the workplace. Domestic abuse can be such a visceral experience for most people to deal with that we can want to run in the other direction. This reaction from people in the workplace can lead to and has left to the individual experiencing this being ostracised and left to deal with this horrendous issue alone.
The development of the EIDA Employer Handbook is a wonderful tool, full of information, case studies, templates, and examples of how to set up your workplace to deal with this issue should it arise. It also helps managers and colleagues to recognise the signs, so that burden of sharing is left with the individual being victimised by abusive behaviour.
The handbook is accessed online and provides a range of links to additional information and organisations that can be approached for advice, support, and assistance.
