Black Leaders Awareness Day

You are here: Home / Blog / Black Leaders Awareness Day

16th July 2024 by Sandra Pollock Leave a Comment

July 18th marks Black Leaders Awareness Day, a significant occasion dedicated to honouring the contributions, achievements, and experiences of Black leaders and the impact they have made throughout history.

Black Leaders Awareness Day was created to enable people from all cultures to experience the wisdom of past, current, and next-generation leaders through the speeches, quotes, and videos they or others share.

As a leadership coach, I believe this day is not only a moment for celebration but also an opportunity for introspection and action; we must reflect on the challenges that our Black leaders have encountered along the way and identify real actions that can help things move forward.

As a Black leader myself, I understand how much of a lonely place it can be. We’ve worked hard to achieve success but the higher you go the harder it can be to get the support you need as a Black senior professional.

With limited options of people who you can discuss or share your challenges with, wouldn’t it be encouraging to share your experiences with others who can understand and resonate?

That’s why I developed the Black Professional Leaders Network. I know for sure that my journey would have been far less lonely and challenging at times if I’d had a safe space to meet and speak with other Black professionals who understood what I was experiencing on a daily basis.

I want to support you and share with you some of the things I’ve learnt from three decades of experience working at senior, executive and board levels providing executive coaching and support for senior professionals across all sectors of business.

My wish is to support your continued career development, leadership, confidence, and people skills as you deal with the particular experiences we may be exposed to as a result of discrimination, criticism, microaggression and harassment.

The Black Professional Leaders Network is also a place to discover methods to strengthen our emotional states and reduce the impact these experiences can have on our physical wellbeing.

This network is not just for today, it’s for every day, for Black leaders who want to grow, feel supported and connect with like minded others. So if you resonate with this, then please do reach out to me at info@openmindcoaching.com and we can explore whether this is the right space for you.

I’ll be hosting a webinar on Friday 16th August 2024 at 11am via Zoom to talk about this new network, talk about your experiences and answer your questions. What are you looking for in such a network? Register for the event here.

Black Leaders Awareness Day is more than a celebration…it’s a call to action. By recognising the contributions of Black leaders and actively working to support their growth and development, we can create more inclusive and equitable organisations.

Let’s use this day as a starting point for meaningful change, ensuring that the voices and talents of Black leaders are heard, valued, and celebrated all year round.
