This is the question that I will be addressing at the Women Leading With Purpose (WLP), which is a leadership programme networking event on Wednesday 23rd October 2019 at the University of Leicester.
I am honoured to have been invited to be a guest speaker at this event which is part of a women-only led leadership programme launched earlier this year during International Women’s Day. The programme pilot has been a great success with participants feeling more confident about their leadership style, more able to acknowledge their strengths (something many women struggle with) and embracing being part of a growing community.
As I was thinking about how I might respond to the question I’ve been asked to consider, I reflected on how long it is that I’ve been working in women’s development as a side-line. I say side-line because it has not been my actual job. My main work is around people and leadership development.
I’ve been doing community work for as far back as my teens in one guise or another. My women’s development focus became yet another side-line over 15 years ago. However, in all of this, I guess I’ve done many things from which I learnt a lot and I hope to share some of these learnings with the audience of WLP.
The second speaker Judith Harris will be giving a presentation about the latest developments on work to promote gender equality and how women at Leicester can access regional networks. I look forward to this presentation.
