I recently had the opportunity to take part in the Student Leadership Conference at Loughborough University.
The topic of my talk was delegation – ‘Delegating with Confidence’.
Everyone has heard about delegation and may well have some idea about its use and the important elements such as preparation, time management properties, and how doing it well can positively impact your career prospects.
I thoroughly enjoyed sharing information with the students who attended the session.

This is me setting up and getting things ready for the talk.
I outlined the session for anyone who would answer yes to any of these questions:
- Do you lead a team or a group of people?
- Are you and your team or group responsible for creating a project, or achieving a particular
aim/outcome? - Do you struggle to ask other people to do tasks?
- Would you like to be a better group leader and achieve more?
- Understanding how to delegate effectively is one of the keys to helping you and your team
achieve more.
Delegation is a process that you can plan and prepare for. Doing this will help you be more assertive, improve your confidence
and your success in working with the people in your group or team.
Comments from the students included:
‘I didn’t realise that preparation for the delegation was a thing or how important it was.’
‘I’ve learned so much about delegation.’
‘This session has helped me understand how to build trust with the people I delegate to.’
It was a pleasure to prepare for and share my views, tips, and information on ‘Delegating with Confidence.
