Arriving in Leicestershire 1950’s

I get to do some very exciting things in life, and Tuesday started with both excitement and fun.

I was invited to be an extra on the filming ‘Streets Paved with Gold’, recounting the journey and arrival of my dear friend Victor Richards, a London-born Leicester-bred son of Barbadian parents who came to Britain in the 1950s. He is an actor, writer, poet, and storyteller.

Beautiful sunshine on a chilly Leicester day greeted us as we arrived at the Great Central Railway station in Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK.  It’s a 1950 scene of getting off the train as we arrived in Leicester.

 

Lots of fun, laughter and reminiscing on what for most of us with Caribbean roots, were reflections on experiences shared with us by our parents as we were growing up.  It was wonderful see so many of our community there to support Victor is this important piece of our history.
