I can’t believe I haven’t shared this here already—it’s far too important to miss.

100 Black Women Who Have Made A Mark is a powerful exhibition curated by the incredible Pawlet Brookes MBE, CEO and Artistic Director of Serendipity Institute for Black Arts and Heritage.

Originally showcased at Leicester Gallery, De Montfort University (Oct 1, 2024 – Jan 4, 2025), and now on display at the Curve Theatre, Leicester (Feb 11 – May 31, 2025), this exhibition celebrates the contributions of Black women across British life.

🔎 This isn’t a definitive list—it’s a spotlight.

From over 700 nominations, 100 portraits were selected, each one a tribute to perseverance, passion, and profound impact. Created by five Black British female artists, these works bring visibility to stories too often left untold.  The amazing artists are Valerie Asiimwe Amani, Yvadney Davis, Gayle Ebose, Grace Lee, and Lauryn Pinard.

💫 It’s a gallery of trailblazers, of resilience and joy. A reminder of the immense contribution Black women have made, and continue to make, across every sector.

In addition to the exhibition, there is also an accompanying podcast series, featuring interviews with the sitters, with each woman having the opportunity to tell her own story alongside hearing considered reflections from family, friends, and colleagues or archival material.
