Being a woman, just like being a man is not a choice. Can you imagine not being able to go to school or work because you cannot afford sanitary products? This is the experience for thousands of women and girls.
Once the female body matures, nature takes its course, and the monthly menstrual cycle begins. However, the cost of this natural occurrence is expensive for women and girls here in the UK and in numerous countries across the world.
The Royal College of Nursing states
‘It is estimated that currently, over 137,000 children across the UK have missed school days due to period poverty.’
This is shocking but true.
This roundtable discusses this issue and looks at the impact on the lives, prospects, and opportunities of girls and women still in the 21st Century.
