Here in the UK we are celebrating Black History Month (BHM) in October. Yes, I know a different date from that of the US which I believe is 1 February TO 1 March.
I am always delighted when I am invited to take part in events during October to recognise this month and Black people, their contribution, culture and history.
One of the events I have been asked to take part in is the Bassetlaw BHM event. Here I have been asked to be the Keynote Speaker. This is an honour.
I must give thanks to the wonder Sylvia Acquah, CEO of W2 Academy, and responsible for this annual event. The event takes place on Saturday 25th October 2025 from 12:30pm to 6:30pm
Sylvia and I met many years ago when she was at the University of Leicester. I had the pleasure of being a coach/mentor in support of her ambitions for her future and business start up. She has achieved a tremendous amount since then, through her determination, passion for her community and desire to make a difference.
I look forward to meeting our other speakers and workshop hosts running some very important sessions, such as:
- The Significance of Men’s Mental Health – Richard Hylton-Mais,
- Cllr Faith Gakanje-Ajala, who’s workshop looks at Career Navigation;
- Florella Alexandrii with the workshop on Starting Your Care Business & Securing Contracts, and
- Egbula Enya with Insurance & Security,
- and more…
This is stacked up to be a great day with activities for all the family throughout the day.
As I make this post, there is still time to book and join us all there. To purchase tickets visit https://sylviaacquah.com/event where you will find a range of ticket options.
