Where are your thoughts taking your business?

You are here: Home / Blog / Where are your thoughts taking your business?

12th June 2020 by Sandra Pollock Leave a Comment

Over the past few months, we’ve all been struggling with the Covid-19 pandemic and all the uncertainty of where this will leave us in our private and business lives.

When it comes to business studies and general advice, not a lot is regularly shared about how our thoughts affect our business. Well, maybe the element of new ideas come into it, but I’m talking about the thoughts of the leaders and managers of the business. What are your regular thoughts about the future?

Some people think this is not necessary or real.  There’s a belief that this is too fluffy and not relevant to business success and profitability.  I disagree with that train of thinking because if you have people, you have thinking and thinkers.  And we tend to create what we’re busy thinking about.  We don’t create our ideal unless those ideas are what we are more frequently thinking about.

New Science tells us that our thoughts are far more powerful than we have realised in the past and that our thoughts, when combined with our emotions have the power to create what we’re focused on.

In truth, if we look out our lives, what we currently have in our businesses or our careers, this is true.  We have concentrated on achieving particular things.  We’ve moved that concentrated thought to our emotions and through our emotions into our behaviours and activities.  And we’ve kept doing this until we have achieved the success that we’ve wanted.

However, it is really easy to slip from this state of being unto another road or pathway that takes us somewhere else. It is easy to do this at times like in the current global pandemic.  Almost everything we read, hear, and see says we can’t make it, we’re going to fail and all manner of negative messages.

I’m not saying that this is not an unusually different and difficult time for many.  The point I’d like us to consider is what we choose to believe and thereby, focus on. If we completely buy into the idea that we cannot make through this time, we will not be open mentally, emotionally or physically to any opportunities that might come our way, because we’re too busy focusing on failure.

And failure, in my opinion, is all about perception. For example, if you do find that you have to close your current business, that does not mean there are not other opportunities through which you can find success.

However, if as scientists tell us we spend 80% of our time thinking negative thoughts, then without retraining our habitual thinking, we will be far more likely to succumb to doom and gloom of the current failure mentality.

So, where are your thoughts taking you?

If you’ve created as part of your business plan, professional plan or personal plan a mission statement or vision statement, my advise is that you go back to these and reconnect the dreams of what you want to create for yourself or your business.

If you haven’t done either of these things, then it’s time that you work on creating a vision of the future that will draw you towards it, instead of looking continuously to the failures of the past.
